On May 30, Dr. Barbara Tate, Chief Strategy Officer at the Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF), joined 10 founders and team members at the Pennovation Center to discuss the unique ecosystem of DDF, and the innovations they’ve developed to address the complex nature of this disease. "You don't have to be in the dementia area, but your biology may be relevant. Let us help you de-risk that science and enter the space."  DDF derisks the startup experience itself by offering salary and benefits.

On May 23, Kate Merton, East Coast Site Head for JLABS, shared insights into crafting your story into an effective, non-confidential pitch deck. The group of 8 founders in attendance learned tricks of the trade in how to communicate the full potential of their discoveries without spilling the secret sauce. 

"There is nothing better than having someone leave your pitch, able to retell your story," Merton shared.

On May 9, as the Pennovation Center's fourth and final event for Philly Tech Week 2019, member company Tern Water hosted their Healthy Philly event titled, "Understanding Our Surroundings: Unlocking the Potential to Recognize Problems as Opportunities to Build Solutions."

On Sunday, May 5, the Pennovation Center hosted its first of four events for Philly Tech Week 2019: the FRSHWV Teen Music + Tech Festival Preview. Organized by Jr. Music Executives + ATH Arts, FRSHWV put together a youth-centered experience designed to inspire and excite. Over 70 high school and middle school students braved the rainy weather for an afternoon of tech, gaming, and music.
