Pennovation wrapped up 2019 in style with a holiday brunch for all Pennovation Works members. Members spent time catching up with each other, enjoying the delicious spread, and playing a lively game of White Elephant. We believe in the power of community at Pennovation and are always excited to offer our members opportunities to spend time with each other and learn from one another. Thanks to all our partners and members for a wonderful year and we're looking forward to a great start to 2020!

Startup Grind with Beau Wangtrakuldee [event recap]

The Pennovation Center recently hosted Beau Wangtrakuldee for Startup Grind. Jenn Maher, CEO of 1776, and Beau, CEO of AmorSui, spoke about Beau's journey with AmorSui. AmorSui produces lab-safe clothing for women that are stylish, professional, and comfortable. "You have to feel good to do good" is Beau's push behind developing these clothing for women in lab environments.

Home Is Where the Smart Is: Philly Greentech Putting Down Roots in Smart Homes and Cities [event recap]

On October 16, Pennovation hosted a panel and interactive gallery exhibition as part of the B.Phl Innovation Festival. Attendees were invited to think differently about their homes and their hometowns with local greentech companies based at Pennovation Works. A panel discussion brought together the founders and CEO’s of companies who are changing the game with Smart Cities technology. Visitors enjoyed the interactive gallery exhibition and demonstration of sustainable technologies and were excited to hear from experts in greentech who are re imagining our homes.

Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire [event recap]

On Sunday, October 6, over 100 makers and 1,000 visitors came together at Pennovation for the second annual Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire. With exhibitors from NextFab, Pennovation, UPenn, and more, the Philadelphia Mini Maker Faire was a volunteer-organized, family-friendly celebration featuring local do-it-yourself science, art, robots, crafts, tech, music, hands-on-activities, and more. It was an event where people could show what they are making and share what they are learning.

Pennovation Works 3rd Annual Community Concert [event recap]

Pennovation Works was thrilled to host our 3rd annual community concert on September 27th, featuring Hardwork Movement, a Philadelphia based hip-hop group with music that is inclusive, original, and inspires all listeners to strive towards uniqueness in all that they do.  Attendees also enjoyed a live performance by our opening act, neo-soul artist, Jacqueline Constance.  Food trucks Philly Goodfellas and Chilly Banana were onsite for refreshments!  

Pennovation Center Food for Thought - The Dogs of 9/11 with Dr. Cynthia Otto [event recap]

The Penn Vet Working Dog Center joined the Pennovation Center members on September 11th for a unique opportunity to hear Dr. Cynthia Otto, founder of the Working Dog Center, talk about her work with service dogs on 9/11. Dr. Otto took the audience through the challenges she encountered with the working dogs on 9/11 as well as the research her experience inspired. Dr. Otto went on to found the Working Dog Center as a result of her experience - to provide a scientific, positive, and professional environment for dogs to train for professions like search and rescue and K9 units.
