Philly Tech Week @ Pennovation - Disrupting Cancer with Dr. Carl June [event recap]

Philly Tech Weekgoers had the incredible opportunity to hear from one the most brilliant minds on the front line in the fight against cancer, Dr. Carl June. On Tuesday, May 1st, PACT hosted a conversation between Dr. June and Penn's Osagie Imasogie, along with along with presentations from top Penn spin-out companies working in the fight against cancer.  With the discovery of the first gene therapy to be approved by the FDA, Penn Medicine is leading the world in immunotherapy research.

Philly Tech Week @ Pennovation - Tern Presents: Health Water = Healthy Philly [event recap]

 

Tern Water, a Pennovation member company, hosted their first #HealthyPhilly event. Chelsea Hoover of Fuel for Thought Nutrition led a discussion about water as the foundation of health and wellness. Tern innovators also demonstrated the new Smart Faucet, a home device that connects to any kitchen faucet and syncs seamlessly with the Tern App to monitor filter status, real time water usage, and water quality. Jess Edelstein, Founder of PiperWai talked about the movement towards natural products, and the impact it has on the citizens of Philadelphia.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services announced today that Opertech Bio (Opertech Bio, Inc.) has committed to just over 400 square feet within the Pennovation Center, the University’s rapidly expanding business, technology and laboratory incubator within the 23 acre Pennovation Works innovation ecosystem.

On Sunday, April 22nd, the Pennovation Center opened its doors to robotics, engineering, technology, and innovation enthusiasts ages 5 to 105 for a day full of demonstrations, innovation talks, and hands-on activities. Families came for a day of activities organized by the GRASP Lab at PERCH, Pennovation, and groups from the School of Arts & Sciences and Graduate School of Education. Participants Programmed robots, solved challenges, and innovated the future.

MedTech Series: Innovation @ Penn [event recap]

PACT’s Medical Device Group visited the Pennovation Center and was excited to hear from Penn researchers and administrators on the University's latest medtech innovations. Mark Turco, MD, Chief Innovation and Corporate Outreach Officer at the Penn Center for Innovation kicked off the morning with a presentation on the history of medtech innocation at the University of Pennsylvania. He was followed up by a panel featuring Penn startups and faculty innovators, including Karen Hogan, CEO of BioRealize, a Pennovation member company.

VFA Northeast Job Fair [event recap]

The Pennovation Center welcomed Venture for America Fellows and member companies on Friday, April 13th for a job fair and happy hour. This Job Fair brought together 30+ startups and 50+ Fellows for a full day of interviews and networking. Interviews were arranged based on companies' candidate preferences in addition to leaving open time for networking with additional Fellows and companies.
