Polyhedral Structures announces their latest publication on Additive Manufacturing
Polyhedral Structures announced their latest publication on Additive Manufacturing led by PhD student Yefan Zhi, titled Automated Toolpath Design of 3D Concrete Printing Structural Components.
The article presents an automated and comprehensive approach to the toolpath design and optimization of 3D concrete printing (3DCP) structural components for construction assemblies, which are known for reduced material use, enhanced efficiency and design freedom. It is a summary of our past two years‘ research in automated, optimized 3DCP toolpaths that make possible the printing of complex geometries for efficient, functional structural assemblies. The proposed method is implemented as a plug-in software within the environment of Grasshopper® for Rhino®, named Ovenbird. It has powered all 3D concrete printing projects in our lab and lays the foundation of our research in computing multi-material extrusion.
