Penn Vet Working Dog Center Law Enforcement K9 Training Graduation

On May 10th, the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (PVWDC) held a graduation for their latest Law Enforcement K9 Training Program cohort.

Over the span of 10-weeks, police officers and their canines took part in the PVWDC Law Enforcement K9 Training Program. The program provides qualified law enforcement canine handlers, or police canines, from local, state and federal agencies with individualized training to create high-performing K9 teams. Training topics include basic obedience, agility, scent detection, evidence search, suspect search techniques, and suspect apprehension, among others.

With more than 75 years combined K9 and law enforcement experience, and instructed by certified police canine trainers, the course meets or exceeds the standards specified by the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) in the basic training skills and hours of training required of police canine teams.

“We have five K9s from the PVWDC that are trained in detection and patrol. Our K9s and their handlers are prepared to face daily real life challenges thanks to PVWDC’s training and support”, shared John P. Slavin, Chief of Police, Cheltenham Township Police Department.

Congratulations to the police officers and canines that graduated!
